Acceptance of Terms

By downloading and using FocusBreaks, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software.

The Software

FocusBreaks is a Windows desktop application that tracks keyboard and mouse activity at one-minute resolution to schedule focus and break periods. It stores one bit per minute (active or idle) - no keystrokes, application names, or screenshots are captured. All data stays on your computer.

Purchase and Licensing

FocusBreaks is distributed through the Microsoft Store. When you purchase FocusBreaks:

  • Your license is tied to your Microsoft account
  • You can install FocusBreaks on up to 10 devices signed into the same Microsoft account
  • The purchase is a one-time payment - there are no subscriptions or recurring charges
  • Updates are included at no additional cost

Purchases, billing, and payment processing are handled entirely by Microsoft. FocusBreaks does not collect or store your payment information.

Free Trial

FocusBreaks offers a free trial with all features enabled. The trial lasts 15 days. No credit card or account is required to start the trial. After the trial, you will be prompted to purchase a license. The app continues to function during this period with reminder notifications.

Refunds

Since FocusBreaks is sold through the Microsoft Store, refunds are subject to Microsoft's return and refund policy. You can request a refund through your Microsoft account order history.

If you have trouble with the refund process, contact me and I will do my best to help.

What the Software Does

FocusBreaks monitors keyboard and mouse input to determine whether you are active or idle. It also checks microphone and camera status through the Windows capability registry to detect meetings. This data is used to:

  • Schedule focus and break periods based on your actual activity
  • Display your accumulated active work time (the Today counter)
  • Suppress break alerts during meetings
  • Optionally simulate minimal activity to prevent the operating system from marking you as idle

None of this data leaves your computer. There are no network requests except optional license validation through the Microsoft Store.

Idle Prevention and Screen Management

FocusBreaks includes two optional features that affect system behavior:

  • Idle prevention simulates minimal input to prevent the operating system or third-party tools from marking you as idle. This may conflict with your employer's IT policies or endpoint management software. If your organization restricts the use of activity simulation tools, do not enable this feature.
  • Screen-on mode keeps your display awake during focus, wind up, and wind down periods. While the screen is kept on, your computer will not lock automatically. This is a security risk in shared or unsecured environments. Use this feature only if your workspace is physically secure.

Both features are disabled by default. You enable them at your own risk and are responsible for ensuring their use complies with your workplace policies.

Limitations

You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software
  • Redistribute the software outside of the Microsoft Store
  • Use the software for any purpose that violates applicable law

Disclaimer

FocusBreaks is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Activity tracking is approximate - it records whether input was detected in a given minute, not the nature or quality of that input. The software is not a time-tracking, invoicing, or employee monitoring tool. It is designed for personal use to support healthy work habits.

I am not liable for any damages arising from the use of this software, including but not limited to lost data, lost productivity, or decisions made based on the activity data it provides.

Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of FocusBreaks after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
